Type 1: Descriptive Essays
It may seem as if your fellow students and even friends always have interesting topics and experiences to write about. Often, these are normal daily life experiences. Type 2: Informative Essays
A student in your class knows everything there is to know about sharks. Another can sing and play the piano beautifully. Virtually everyone has a talent, hobby or area of interest that gives them expertise in a particular field and provides scope for creative writing. You could select an area or sphere that you have special knowledge in.
Has it ever occurred to you what someone from a previous era would think of the modern world? Give vent to your imagination and think about what would happen if such a person visited you. Think of an invention or something that was discovered in the past century and use the writing process to demonstrate how it is now integral to everyday life. Some new person arrived in your local community or neighborhood. Some local people already understand this person’s culture because they have read a book or seen a movie about it. A great aspect of books and movies is that they enable us to become acquainted with people who live different lives to ours. Use this opportunity to describe a movie or story that taught you about people with different backgrounds or about people from other cultures or even from different parts of your own country.
Type 3: Persuasive Essays
The governing board at your local school has decided it would be a good idea for every student to undertake some community work. As a result, students are encouraged to say whether they are in favor of or against such an initiative in an essay. Therefore, as you can see, there are all types of essay prompts.
A local school principal wants to prohibit the wearing of hats, leather clothing and jewelry at school and, instead, replace these with a stricter dress code. Topics like this can be considered as prompts or indeed as college application essay prompts to argue in favor of or against a school implementing a standard code of dress or uniform.
Or, let’s say, a student and/or teacher and other members of your community join a television chat show to discuss whether TV is a good or harmful thing.
